Hello, I’m Pastor Roger Spahr. I have been the Sr. Pastor of this church
for the past 24 years. A few years ago I received a new title. While leading a group to the Holy Land, I woke up one morning to discover I had become a Grandpa (‘Sabba’ in Hebrew). I didn’t do anything to earn my new identity. I didn’t feel older or wiser, but I accepted the truth that a new relationship had begun for me even though we were separated by thousands of miles.
Coming into God’s family has many similarities. The Bible says “But to all who believed him and accepted him (Jesus), he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
Children need homes because they need relationships. If you are exploring this website because you are looking for a church home, let me share some of our distinctives and purpose here at Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
If I were to give you two words that would distinguish our congregation they would be “Evangelical”, “Ecumenical” and "Wesleyan".
We are Evangelical in that we believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and King and seek to proclaim the Good News to a hurting world. We are seeing the power of God change lives, break addictions, save marriages, and strengthen families. We have seen the power of prayer at work in our church and believe that our growth has been a direct result of that power. What excites me about this congregation is seeing our people called from being spectators to ministers. We believe every person God brings into this church family is here for a reason.
We are Ecumenical in that we have a great amount of diversity of backgrounds that we come from. My prayer through the years has been that God would use this congregation to meld the best of Christian traditions and heritage to show the world that unity in Christ supersedes worship styles and denominational lines. We worship on Sunday mornings with two very distinct styles of worship, an early traditional service and a later contemporary service. Our staff reflects our congregation’s diversity of church backgrounds, yet there is a unity of the Holy Spirit that makes us one.
We are Wesleyan through our roots int the revival movement initiated by John Wesley. You will find a strong emphasis on the grace of God extended to all people through Jesus Christ and the call to personal and social holiness.
I invite you to come visit us any time. May God richly bless your life.
In Christ,
Pastor Roger Spahr
